two types of scaling

Scaling doesn’t always mean more money. Sometimes, it means more LIFE

When I first started this business (and the other before it), I had that goal, like most of us do…

“When will I hit my first 5K month? What about 10K? Is 20K the sweet spot?”

I’d scroll through Instagram wondering how that VA was hitting consistent 10K months, or how that coach was celebrating a 50K launch from a beach in Bali (I was going to say Spain, but let’s be honest… that’s my dream. The internet’s collective fantasy usually lands in Bali).

And don’t get me wrong, those goals lit a fire under me in the early days. They still do, to a degree.

Especially after I was made redundant and decided to back myself, fully. I needed to know this business could support my family and our future.

But now that I’ve hit the revenue goal I once obsessed over? Here’s what I’ve realised…

Scaling looks VERY different to me now.

Sure, scaling can mean more income... hiring, expanding, launching new services or offers. That’s the traditional definition. But for me? Scaling now means more time. More space to breathe. More moments to enjoy life while I build the business. More afternoons off without asking for permission. More school events I actually get to attend. More Mondays going to the gym at 9.30am, just because I can.

It’s not that I don’t care about money. We need it. We deserve it. I’m all for building a wildly profitable business. But once you’re earning enough to live the life you actually want?

The question becomes: Do I want more money, or more time? Or can I have both?

And here’s the secret: You can. We can. I can.

But first, let's talk about something that isn't spoken about often enough.

The cost of over scaling a.k.a The flip side.

When you only focus on scaling revenue and ignore your capacity, your time, and your joy? That’s a fast track to burnout.

Here’s what over scaling (a.k.a being "busy") really costs:

→ Late nights and early mornings that never end

→ Constantly chasing numbers with no real sense of fulfilment

→ Revenue highs followed by energy crashes

→ Saying yes to work you don’t even love, just to keep the numbers up

→ Growing a business that feels more like a trap than freedom

So instead of building just for the sake of building, I want to show you how to start scaling with intention.

5 PRACTICAL ways to start scaling with intention now:

Audit your services. Are you offering things you no longer enjoy? Start trimming the excess that is no longer a necessity.

Set your baseline. Get clear on the minimum you need to earn monthly and focus on sustainability first. Make sure you are accounting for GST, Tax, Super and all those subscriptions you need to run your business.

Batch & systemise. Automate anything that doesn’t need your brain. Create workflows that save you hours.

Raise your prices (strategically): Charge for value, not hours. You don’t need more clients, you need better ones.

Reclaim time boundaries: Set non negotiables around your calendar, your inbox, and your energy.

So now, how do we scale income AND time?

Let’s keep it simple:

→ Streamline. Strip your business back to the offers, processes, and marketing that actually move the needle. Cut what doesn’t serve you.

→ Systemise. Set up back end systems and automations that run without you. Think onboarding, client comms, content workflows.

→ Simplify. Stop overcomplicating your offers. One strong signature service can outperform five scattered ones.

When you do this? You get both:

→ Predictable profit

→ Freedom-filled days

→ A business that feels good, not heavy

For me? It looked like scaling back the number of clients I take on, charging for my expertise... not just my time. And creating a business that works around my life, not the other way around. Because yes, I want the business. But I also want the freedom to take a random Wednesday off just to reset. I want to be the mum at the school assembly. I want the long lunches, the gym in the middle of the day, the quick getaways just because. And that’s the version of scaling no one talks about enough.

So if you’re chasing more; but you’re not sure if that “more” is money, time, or both.. let this be your reminder: You get to decide what scaling looks like for you. And whatever your version is? We can build a strategy that gets you there.
